Chapel of Joux
Historic site and monumentPresentation
Joux chapel was built in 1633.
From the 29th of October to the 3rd of November 1630, we can count six persons who died from the plague in Joux. Inside the chapel you can find the statue of the Mother of Sorrows with seven daggers into her heart. People invoke her to go through their mourning.
This chapel was built under the patronage of the Nativity of Mary, we could wonder why people used to honor her as the Mother of Sorrows or Mater Dolorosa. We just know that after the plague epidemic and the significant losses the inhabitants were going through, they naturally started to turn to the Mother of Sorrows
