Welcome to Manigod, a place where nature, heritage, and tradition come together.

Nestled in the heart of the Aravis massif, we are fortunate to live in an exceptional environment featuring alpine pastures, forests, high-altitude lakes, wetlands, rivers, and pristine peaks. These landscapes—shaped by both nature and human hands—represent a precious heritage that we are deeply committed to preserving. Here, you are invited to experience a simpler, more authentic journey, immersing yourself in the alpine pastures and connecting closely with local farmers.
In Manigod, we believe it is possible to strike a balance between welcoming visitors, ensuring a high quality of life for residents, supporting agriculture, and preserving natural spaces. This vision guides our daily actions.

Remarkable biodiversity worth preserving

The mountains of Manigod are home to an incredibly rich array of flora and fauna. Forests, peat bogs, alpine pastures, and cliffs provide a habitat for many iconic Alpine species, such as the black grouse, chamois, mountain hare, and the scarce large blue butterfly. Some of these species are elusive and sensitive to human presence, making the preservation of their habitats a top priority for the area.
As you explore, take the time to observe this exceptional biodiversity while respecting the tranquility of the environment.
The streams, wetlands, peat bogs, and springs that feed the valley are precious resources. Preserving them enhances the beauty of the landscape, supports biodiversity, and sustains local life.

Natura 2000: a small area within a vast European network

The Beauregard Plateau and some of the alpine pastures near Mont Charvin are part of natural areas recognized for their ecological richness.
These zones are included in the European Natura 2000 network, a program dedicated to preserving natural habitats and remarkable species while maintaining the human activities that shape the landscape. Through this initiative, Manigod contributes to the preservation of a natural heritage recognized at the European level.

A vibrant mountain landscape shaped by agriculture

For centuries, farmers have shaped the landscapes of Manigod. Alpine pastures maintained through grazing preserve open spaces that support biodiversity while offering the panoramic views everyone enjoys today. Cheeses such as Reblochon fermier AOP, Manigodine, Chevrotin, and Abondance are the result of expertise passed down from generation to generation. By choosing local products, visiting a farm, or meeting a producer, you help sustain a vibrant and sustainable mountain agricultural sector.

Producers contribute to:

  • maintaining alpine pastures;
  • preserving the landscape;
  • sustaining biodiversity;
  • passing on traditional skills;
  • the local economy.

Preserving our mountains together

Preserving our local area is everyone's responsibility. A few simple actions can help protect our environment.

You, too, can help preserve the area.

Stay on marked trails: the soil and biodiversity are fragile; sticking to the paths protects the life hidden within them.
Respect herds and agricultural land.
Opt for low-impact transport whenever possible.
Buy local and seasonal products, and support local producers.
Minimize waste.
Travel light: reduce and sort your waste—use reusable water bottles and durable containers, and carry your trash out with you. Use recycling points whenever available!
Set off well-equipped: wear suitable footwear, bring water, and follow trail markers—an enjoyable hike is a safe hike.
Preserve the peace and quiet: observe without taking, enjoy without disturbing... Every site deserves to remain welcoming for everyone. Respect the tranquility of the wildlife. Check the regulations: campfires and wild camping are prohibited, mushroom picking rules apply, and restrictions are tightened during dry spells. A quick check beforehand ensures a worry-free visit.
Simply do your part: like the little hummingbird, everyone can make a difference by limiting water and energy consumption, choosing to walk or cycle, and traveling in a way that minimizes your impact on the local area.
Get around differently: opt for walking, cycling, shuttle buses, or carpooling, and combine your trips.
Conserve resources: moderate your water and energy use, limit unnecessary printing, and adopt more mindful digital habits.

Our goal is to develop a destination that appeals to visitors year-round by showcasing outdoor activities, our heritage, local craftsmanship, and opportunities to connect with the local community.

By choosing Manigod, you discover a mountain environment that is authentic, vibrant, and unspoiled. Thank you for joining us in preserving this natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
