Chapel of Plan des Berthats
Historic site and monumentPresentation
Legend has it that this chapel was built after an avalanche of mud, part of the mountain of Sulens, would have stopped precisely at this place, sparing the hamlet.
Thus, in 1725, to thank the White Virgin, Claude Lambersens had this chapel erected at his expense in the hamlet of Berthats, his homeland.
A petition was addressed to the bishop of Geneva by the inhabitants of the hamlet, so that he authorizes this construction and that he establishes the reverend Fichet, then priest of Manigod, rector of the chapel and then all his successors.
The bell tower houses a bell made in Quintal in 1845, by the Paccard brothers and dedicated to Notre-Dame du Mont Carmel. On each side of the building, stained glass windows represent Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of the Assumption.
Until the 1950s, people came in procession to the Plan des Berthats to ask for rain. This hamlet on the northern slope, at the ubac or as we say locally "at L'Envers", is well watered.
Nowadays, the bell is rung in the event of hail and a mass is celebrated there occasionally.
In this chapel, many Manigodins have been baptized and / or married.

The hamlet of Plan des Berthats also has a bread oven.
A private bread oven, built in 1797, was long abandoned. It was restored by the Mermoz and Lambersend families in the 2000s and inaugurated for the 1st oven festival in 2003.
Likewise, very close to the Nantes Barlotier waterfall, there is an oratory dedicated to Our Lady of the Scapular. This oratory, built in 1867, was renovated in 1997.
