Presentation

The Manigod Tourist Office invites you to discover the organ of its Saint-Pierre Church!
Exceptional to the eye, the Manigod organ is equally exceptional to the ear.
Its strong personality and secret sonorities are unrivalled in the region. A number of concerts will be held in the church this summer featuring our magnificent organ, accompanied by other instruments:

16 July: Organ and Alps Horn Concert
by Éric Latour and Robert Scotton

It was through the great tradition of cathedral choirs that Eric Latour discovered music. At Rouen Cathedral in Normandy, his early musical education was steeped in classical and religious music. The organ quite naturally found its place in this world. At the age of 14, Eric Latour gave his first Sunday recital in Rouen.
At the Rouen Conservatoire, he discovered contemporary music and quickly made a name for himself as a budding specialist in 20th-century music. This was followed by first prizes in chamber music, composition and organ in Louis Thiry’s class.
Upon moving to Haute-Savoie, he wasted no time in sharing his passion for the organ by founding – as soon as he was appointed titular organist following a competitive examination – the Association of Friends of the Annecy Cathedral Organ, which he chairs. Consulted as a technical expert for the construction of the Formentelli organ in Manigod, he plays an active role in promoting it.
His desire to bring the organ down from the gallery leads him regularly to organise tours for tourists, local residents and schoolchildren, to foster unique encounters, to combine the organ with a wide range of instruments, and to host a weekly radio programme… He sees his concerts as opportunities to share his passion for the organ, whether in cathedrals or on the most modest organs, which are often capable of great poetry. He is also organist at the Protestant Church in Geneva.

Robert Scotton is active in a highly diverse and enriching musical environment as an instrumentalist, singer, choir director and composer.
He studied the euphonium, piano and singing at the Annecy Conservatoire, but it was as a self-taught musician that he turned to the alphorn and developed a passion for the instrument. He founded and conducts the alphorn ensemble ‘Les Sonneurs de Savoye’ and the trio ‘Les Coralpins’, both of which have won the Nendaz International Alphorn Competition on several occasions.
His approach and personal teaching style reveal the instrument’s many facets and help students discover new dimensions in performance. He performs regularly in organ and alphorn recitals, sings in the vocal quartet ‘Ceux d’en haut’ (polyphonic music from the Northern Alps) and conducts numerous choirs.
In his compositions, he combines tradition with an exploration of new sounds, always prioritising the homogeneity and purity of tone. He was director of the Swiss Alpine Horn Academy from 2005 to 2019. He is a permanent member of the jury for the Alpine Horn section of the Swiss Yodellers’ Federation.
